Santa Fe Season by Season

Planning a visit to Santa Fe? While Summer is high tourist time, every season has something to offer in this vibrant and eclectic New Mexican city! Read on for season-specific tips to make the most of your time in Santa Fe.

Spring

Spring in Santa Fe is typically cool, dry, and windy, although it’s not unusual to have the occasional snow shower in March or even April. With almost three hundred days of sun year-round, Spring is typically Santa Fe’s sunniest season, so be prepared for clear skies, warm sun, and plenty of northern New Mexican charm.

Summer

Summer is Santa Fe’s busiest season, with travelers coming from all over the world to experience the magic of the “City Different.” The weather is hot and dry in June, followed by the afternoon storms of monsoon season in July, August, and early September. While the days may be warm, the nights are usually pleasantly cool thanks to the high elevation. The summer season also features Santa Fe’s world-famous art markets and opera performances.

Fall

Fall in New Mexico means the scent of roasting green chile, the stunning golden foliage of aspen groves, and pleasantly cool, crisp days perfect for exploring. Fall brings comfortably cool weather, along with chilly nights and the first few flurries of snow in November and December. The autumn season is a great time to get to know the city, with less of the hustle and bustle of a summer visit.

Winter

Even in Santa Fe’s high desert clime, we still get plenty of snow! Winter in Santa Fe is a ski-lover’s paradise, with sunny slopes in the nearby Santa Fe Ski Basin, as well as short drives away in Taos and Los Alamos. The strong New Mexican sun will warm you up during the day, and Santa Fe’s many art, culture, and fine dining options will keep you entertained all night long.
